Questions from parents and teachers

Frequently asked questions

Short, specific answers. Where a question needs more room, the answer points to the page that has it.

What age is Typing Tutor for?

Kids aged about 6 to 10 who are learning to type and spell. Each kid has a level from 1 to 10 in every game, and half the games use it to pick harder words or a faster pace, so a 6-year-old and a 10-year-old aren't stuck on the same content. The grown-up side is for parents and teachers.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Typing Tutor is free for families and schools. Talisim, a company that sells travel eSIMs, sponsors it, and the app shows a small "Sponsored by talisim.com" line on menu screens. Game screens don't show it.

Does my child need an email address or an account?

No. Kids don't have accounts or email addresses. A parent or teacher creates a profile for each kid with a display name, one of eight animal avatars and a 4-digit PIN. The grown-up's account needs an email address; the kid's profile doesn't.

What data does Typing Tutor store?

For each grown-up (parent, teacher or school admin): an email address and a password, stored securely so nobody can read it back. For each kid: a display name, an avatar, a PIN (stored the same way), their class if it's a school profile, game progress (levels, rounds and stars) and the stories they write. The privacy page lists every item, including the counters the service keeps.

Where does my child's writing go?

In the three AI games (The Dragon's Library, Story Potion and Rhyme Time), what a kid types goes to the safety check and then to the AI storyteller, and the story is stored securely so you can read it. It isn't sold, shared with advertisers or used by us to train AI. The other eleven games don't send what a kid types to an AI at all.

Can kids talk to other kids or to strangers?

No. There's no chat, no messaging and no friends list, and kids can't see each other's writing. The avatar picker on a device only shows the kids that device was set up for: your family's kids at home, or one class at school. Other families never see your kids' names.

How do kids log in on their own device?

A grown-up sets the device up once. At home, a parent signs up in the app, adds their kids, then sets up the kids' device, either the one they're on or another one using a code or QR code. At school, the teacher shows a class code on the board for 15 minutes and each device enters it once. After that, kids tap their avatar and type their 4-digit PIN.

My child uses it at school too. Is that the same profile?

No, they're two separate profiles. The school one is managed by the school, the home one by you, and progress and stories don't move between them. Linking the two isn't possible yet.

What if the AI writes something unsuitable?

Every sentence the AI writes goes through a two-layer check before the kid sees it: a word filter, then an AI check tuned to picture-book level. If the sentence fails, the kid gets a gentle fallback line instead. What kids type is checked the same way, and if it fails it never reaches the storyteller; the kid is asked to take the story in a different direction. If the check can't run, the kid's sentence waits and they're asked to try again in a moment; it never goes through unchecked.

Can I read what my child wrote?

Yes, all of it. The story library in the parent dashboard shows every story, with both the kid's lines and the storyteller's.

Are there ads or tracking?

There are no ads apart from the sponsor line, no tracking or advertising scripts, and no data for sale. We count visits with our hosting provider's cookie-free analytics, which records things like the page opened and the browser type but sets no cookies and doesn't follow anyone around the web.

What do kids need to play?

A web browser on a device a grown-up has set up for them. There's nothing to install. It's typing practice, so a computer or tablet with a real keyboard suits it best.

How does a school get set up?

Each school gets its own address, like yourschool.mytypingtutor.ai. Schools are set up with us rather than by signing up online; a contact address will be published on this site before launch. Once it's set up, a school admin invites the teachers and each teacher runs their own classes.

When does it launch?

Soon. There's no date yet and no waitlist to join. When the hosted version opens, the "Coming soon" label on this site will turn into a link to the app.
